Detailed Services - Steps

Steps should not just be seen as a practical necessity. Changes in level can be dramatic and a feature all by themselves. Generally the principles are always the same:

  • They should be broad and shallow
  • If they must be steep they should be narrow
  • Very shallow steps are dangerous
  • Grass steps are generally unsuccessful!
  • Slippery steps are dangerous – consider the materials and aspect carefully
  • The relationship between the riser and the tread is important
